Chart Check Services

A badly or partially updated nautical chart is just as dangerous as one which has not been updated at all. It can mean the difference between a safe voyage and a final voyage. A little bit of extra knowledge and attention to detail will help to prevent your vessel from becoming the next casualty at sea.

A simple but thorough safety check of your charts can be made by Chart Check limited which will identify the charts that have become dangerous to use and recommend what action to take.

It may be that the crew of your vessel need some extra training or lack the confidence to update their charts. Time is a factor which often stops people paying the required attention to detail. Chart Check Limited will explore ways of making the task simpler and quicker to complete.

Chart Check Limited can put you in touch with other navigation specialists who can satisfy all your navigation needs.

Chart Check recently carried out a navigational chart Safety Audit at Nautisk Forlag AS in Oslo, Norway. This included the entire stock consisting of a staggering 20,000 charts in all and took around 14 days to complete. In addition to this, Chart Check ran a 3 day training course to teach the Chart Correcting staff the finer points of updating Admiralty Charts.

The course covered every aspect of applying Notices to Mariners corrections to charts including:

    • Appreciating the correctors responsibilities to the Mariner
    • Understanding the chart,
    • Drawing the symbols used,
    • Plotting positions,
    • Using bearings,
    • How to read the Notice to Mariners and interoperate their contents,
    • How to apply the correction to the chart using the Text of the NM and using tracings,
    • How to get the best out of the drawing instruments used
    • Which drawing instruments are best to use for top quality corrections
    • Most importantly of all: how to be accurate in positioning, how to make the correction legible and acceptable practices when correcting a chart.
